'Sail'abrate Good Times at Mystic Seaport!
The town of Mystic has been a place to get away from the normal every day stress for generations.
It's a seaport village with a rich history. It was originally a home to the Pequot then the English seized control. Since then, it became a primary seaport location.
The Mystic Seaport is credited to be the largest maritime museum in New England. It has a working preservation shipyard, a recreated seafaring village area and sailing exhibits. You'll find beautiful ships that you can climb on board and imagine what would be like to brave the open seas.
If you work up an appetite while walking through the seaport, why not visit the famous Mystic Pizza and grab a slice. Yes, this is the setting of the 1988 film featuring Julia Roberts. The restaurant adorns movie memorabilia on its walls for the visitors to enjoy.
Along the same street, there are lots of little shops to find some treasures of your own to take home.
Right next to the museum area is the Museum Cake and Bake Shop where we found some amazing fudge. We were looking at two of the flavors and couldn't decide which one to buy, so we end up buying them both. We still don't regret this decision. So tasty! They offer samples too!
There is also an aquarium in Mystic. It is a fairly sized aquarium and it features the only beluga whales in New England. It has not only sea life like sea lions, penguins and stingrays but it also offers attractions such as the frog exhibit and interactive exhibits for kids to touch sea life. You even feed the stingrays! Overall, a fun place to plan a day trip.
Mystic is also a great place to enjoy a date together. There are sailing cruises available and Barley Head Brewery offers a nice rotating selection of crafted in-house brews.
In any case, if you visit Connecticut, make some time for Mystic. At the end of your time there, you'll have some wonderful memories to bring home.
