IPAs By The Sea
One of our favorite things to do while we visit a new state is to visit their breweries. After Beer'd brewery, we set out along the coast with awesome tunes and wind whipping through J.J.'s hair.
We rolled through Groton and found ourselves at Outer Light Brewing Company.
Looking at the variety of craft brews, we have confirmed that Connecticut loves their IPAs. That doesn't mean that they don't have variety. Oh no, just the opposite! They had lagers, porters, IPAs, DIPAs, saisons and even an oyster stout!
The staff was knowledgeable about their brews and the atmosphere is great! J.J. and I shared a flight because we had one more brewery in the itinerary that day. I saw that they had board games. It think that's a neat way to unwind with friends at a bar at the end of a long day!
After we enjoy our brew choices, we set back out. We visited Rocky Neck State Park before our last brewery, but it deserves its own blog entry.
We explored Old Saybrook. It's a quint little town with seaside charm. We found our last brewery of the day: 30 Mile Brewing.
Though they had a limited selection, they were proud of the ones they brew. The staff asked what flavors we usually liked in our brews and made us a flight to sample complimenting flavors.
Before we went to Connecticut, I admit that I wasn't a fan of IPAs. Just so bitter! However, my opinion of them changed on this day. Connecticut just loves their IPAs. Sure, IPAs can be bitter but they have all these extra flavors with it. My favorite was citrus flavor with a mild malty finish. I kept trying them and focusing on individuals flavors from each brew, Now, I order them from time to time.
As we were leaving the parking lot, we noticed Tom the Turkey trotting back into the woods with some ladies. So, I snapped a pic. Fancy!
