Chilling at Rocky Neck
Before my family moved down to Florida, we lived in Connecticut. We would mostly stay in the central to north region, visiting family and such. One of our favorite pastimes was driving down to Rocky Neck State Park.
I remember the trains and the rocky pier with pools of sea water teamed with sea life. Coming back here as an adult showed me that there were a lot more wonderful things about this place than what I remembered.
Now , granted, we did not pick the best time to visit Connecticut. To visit Rocky Neck, most people would pick summer to be the best season. I noticed that different places in Connecticut had a season that was when people liked it best. There's always something to do in this state.
Back to Rocky Neck, there is a parking lot at the beginning. Turns out there is closer parking to the beach. We admittedly had a wonderful stroll before we realized this, and because we didn't have a lot of time left in the day, we went back to get our car.
Rocky Neck State Park isn't just known for their beautiful beach with big rocks to sit on and soft sands to be enjoyed. It has a campground. The campground is grassy and there's a good combo of shade and sun.The showers are free. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit.
The parks have hiking trails that lead to a salt marsh, Baker's Cave, Tony's Nose, Shipyard, and other neat places to visit. If you like to fish or go crabbing, this is a good place t do it. Also, it is a good place to see wildlife.
I love walking along the beach and along the stone pavilion, thinking about how Rocky Neck has changed throughout history.
